With just one rupee collected from each villager, Dr Anil Joshi is changing the landscape of drought hit villages in Madhya Pradesh. As a doctor he would visit villages to see his patients and realized how lack of water was destroying lives. Building dams cost money. So Anil Joshi hit upon an ingenious plan. He collected just one rupee from over a lakh villagers. The money helped him build check dams across many villages.

M. YOGANATHAN (SOUTH)
A bus conductor and a passionate environmentalist, M Yoganathan has planted over a lakh trees all across Tamil Nadu. Yoganathan covers the S 26 bus route in Coimbatore. And in his free time, armed with a projector and slides he's collected over the years, he travels the length and breathe of the state visiting schools and colleges to educate the young students about the need to conserve the environment. He once took on the timber mafia and corrupt officials destroying the forest cover of Kotagiri. But now he feels education is the only way forward.

DEVIRAM GURJAR (WEST)
Deviram Gujrar is a lone crusader, working to save the trees in the three kilometer strip which forms the crucial tiger corridor between Ranthambhor National Park and Kela Devi Sanctuary. At 49 today he has put in 20 years of sweat and blood into protecting these trees from being cut for fire wood by his fellow villagers. Socially ostracized and banned by the Panchayat, his fight to protect the environment is on.
